No need to say more, simply for the sake of having more possibility to decorate. Want to make a diner/restaurant? Only empty glasses and empty plates everywhere. Not sure how the rotting system would fit into this, maybe make so when breaking a food object, the timer is set to one minute no matter how fresh the food was before placed as object, so even if people want to abuse this feature, they have to consume it within the next 60 seconds after taking the food off the table again. Same goes for some other stuff, like metal bars, voxels, why not make them placable too. The more possibilties the better.
