i feel like a hylotls would fit for the role of alien here seeing a human cook for the first time, because all their race specific food are raw.
also i would like to point out that rice is from earth so the Rice Cake and Sushi don't count.

they have probably exported it from earth and started growing it everywhere just like chocolate was exported and grown around the world.
it probably became a hit for the hylotls just like norwegian smoke salmon became a hit in japan just backwards with the fish on rice instead of rice on fish for the hylotls. after the japanse tryed smoke salmon for the first time it became a hit and a new type of sushi was invented when they tryed it again on rice (not that sushi didn't already existe before smoked salmon).
