Welcome to The Nep Lounge. A thread where the Nep community of these forums can come and discuss Neptunia, eat pudding, and generally just Nep around. Have fun everybody!
I didn't understand a word of what the topic was about, so I gave a few keywords to eat to search engines, which led me to this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperdimension_Neptunia . For someone like me who doesn't know anything about the whole franchise, what would you advice to discover ? Manga, anime, novels ? (I don't own any recent playstation, so I won't be able to play the games I'm afraid)
Steam has some of the games, just keep in mind the PC ports can be rather....tempermental. The series itself is basically gamer culture turned into a video game. All of the characters are references to various consoles or game companies, same with all the dungeons, and a lot of the monsters for that matter. My profile picture is of Nepgear, who is based on the Sega Gamegear. As for the Genre, I'd say visual novel meets jrpg.
Kaede covered the game basis, though there is an anime adaptation. Whatever you choose to go with, I hope you enjoy the series! I'd love to make a new Nep acquaintance!
Yes \o/ Actually, when I read your reply I thought "Oh I have to find which character is the Genesis/Megadrive" (because I had the console when I was little), and I found a wiki page explaining the reference to Neptune. I had totally forgotten that episode of Sega history, haha xD
The Megadrive/Genesis character is named Plutia, she is also named after the Sega Pluto. She comes from Re;Birth3, which is sadly the least stable PC port, so buyer beware. In Regards to stability.... Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1 ran fine Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth2 was tempermental, but I made it work by running it as admin with compatibility for windows xp service pack 3, and restarting it every few hours.(I play it for really long periods of time.) Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth3 to this day does not run after a certain cutscene. I believe it is a RAM issue, the main issue being that the game does not use as much RAM as it needs, and the mentioned cutscene causes RAM usage to sky rocket. One of my friends can run it, but he has much more RAM than I do. Hyperdimension Neptunia U Action Unleashed ran fine, it did crash once but never again.
I suppose it all depends on the power of your computer. Re;Birth3 is notoriously crashy on PC, so count yourself lucky my friend.
