Block Smelting 2020-01-20

Melt down metal blocks into bars.

  1. simulatoralive
Have you ever mistakenly made the wrong metal block and wished you could melt them back down to recover the bars used in the process? Have you ever ended up with a large quantity of metal blocks when you actually wanted the metal bars they're made from? Have you ever wished you could melt down an Apex lab and make something else out of all that tungsten? Do you want to recycle blocks, but feel like the Universal Uncrafter is a cheat?

If you answered 'yes' to any of these questions, then you're in the right place! This mod lets you smelt metal blocks and platforms to turn them back into bars suitable for crafting. It also lets you smelt a few of the zero-cost disposable weapons that are randomly found in chests.

When you install this mod, you'll find new recipes at the furnace for melting down blocks.

The blocks that can be smelted are vanilla Starbound blocks made from copper, iron, silver, gold, tungsten, titanium and durasteel. In most cases, the blocks are those made of a single pure metal.

The first notable exception is rusty/wrecked blocks, which require water and iron to make. In this case, the water is lost when the block is smelted.

The second notable exception is sloped plating blocks. These are made from both titanium and another metal. With these, you can recover one metal or the other, not both. This is a limitation of the way Starbound handles recipes.

I left some blocks out of this that had multiple ingredients and the non-metallic ones were hard to find and/or make.

    Happy block smelting!
