Cannot purchase new animals

I have stardew for the switch. I have two deluxe barns, neither are at capacity. I try to purchase new pigs to add them and the game won’t let me. It allows me to select the pig, select a barn with open spaces and name the pig. Then when I’m done it doesn’t deduct any money from my player or add the pig to the barn.
