Race Children of the Monolith: The Liberi

i need to say this. I REALLY LOVE THIS RACE.

 

But it is original amongst the cat races for not being a lolrandom internet cat meme race.

 

this is original. different creator, different history, who cares if they look similar.

(And these really should be in the game, it is a great species idea )

This isn't true at all. For example, many Buddhist emperors and kings in and around India led huge wars with the intention of forcibly converting other people to Buddhism. Really, almost every major religion detests violence, but people are going to resort to it anyway.

But yeah, these seem a lot like Space Elves only with fur. They have pointy ears, think they are better than everyone else, and are the direct descendants of a powerful ancient race. That all of their architecture is smooth and shiny only further contributes to the overall elvish aesthetic. I'd like to see how you can make smooth architecture in a game that builds with square blocks, though. Many people have said Starbound needs Space Elves, so there you go.

Excellent concept art, even if the sprites don't quite match up to the same quality, imo.

I don't think another fur-bearing race should be added because I think the Apex are enough. If one was, though, I would want it to be this.

 

The "holier than thou" attitude could be further corrupted to where they feel like they can decide other species' fate (which is what I was talking about with Meldazzar while drawing the illustrations) However, that would put them firmly in the evil category.

Coming up with some pretty severe flaws is something that would probably elevate the race to be more memorable?

 

Somewhy they remind me of Khajit. A lot. xD

Other than that, I have no real opinion. Would be nice to have a new race.

That seems like a nice motive for playable Liberi wanting to travel amongst the stars. Perhaps the playable Liberi were disgusted by how corrupt their brothers and sisters were becoming, so they fled their home planet on a journey of spiritual discovery, or in order to avoid persecution?

 

Oh, and a friend decided to do me some art as a gift. I'll add it to the main page along with any other art that has been made for the Liberi.

While I am usually horrified and losing what's left of my faith in humanity when checking ideas in NPC and Creatures subforum I must say I really like this race, though in all honesty it may be mostly due to their great presentation by Ymedron who made them look both aesthetically appealing and respectable, without going for just cute or cliche-badass like most. Though, to be honest, we have plenty of playable races and I'd rather gladly see this one as some, well, NPC one - especially since you cannot make them fit the player character's template without robbing them of most of their charm (proportions).

Still, I certainly would like to see this race rather than many of it's alternatives in game, especially as it may be what it takes to take an edge off the frustration of representatives of furry community here who seem to be really bent on having race of somewhat anthropomorphic felines/canines and keep posting ideas about such all the time.

 

I'm going to be updating the lore for them soon, as soon as I actually can, but writing a good quality structure takes time. I'd appreciate any help anyone could offer. And thanks again for all the comments and criticisms.
