Habitat: Cryxlin are most commonly found deep within a crystalline planet, the deeper into the planet the more common they become. Outside that they are often found on abandoned spacecrafts as there crystalline disguise often fools unfortunate miners or pirates who often face a tragic fate. On other types of planets they are much rarer as their reproductive source is rarer.

Appearance: Crystaline lifeform, four limbs around a central body, with a tube like mouth that comes out when feeding. Symmetrical on all four sides.

Behavior: when they are inactive they are completely passive, in this state they appear to be nothing other than an ordinary crystal. As long as you don’t cause damage it will remain inactive, even using one as a platform won’t awaken it. Once active though it emits a light from its body and makes a strange screech that awakens all other cryxlin in the area. After that they attack with a suicidal ferocity quickly rending apart all that gets there way. They won’t stop attacking until either they or their opponent is dead or if they can no longer sense their prey. After which they enter dormant phase again. In higher layers of the underground it is not uncommon to find a single active Cryxlin hunting. While by themselves they are more cautious but no less ferocious

    Threat: single 2/10 Swarm 6/10
A single Cryxlin is only a threat to the most inexperienced of adventures. Though having deadly crystal like claws and a tube like mouth that it sticks into unfortunate adventures and turns there innards to ooze it is very frail. Even with its high resilience for energy resistant comes at the cost of being vulnerable to concussive weaponry. This leads it to being easy to kill if you are alert and prepared. Now swarms are another matter entirely, consisting anywhere between 10-50 their numbers more than make up for their weaknesses and are known to jump down from walls and ceiling to gouge there prey. This coupled with their lethal talons and tube makes them a frightening foe. The only saving grace is that swarms are almost always inactive, so as long as you don’t shoot, or harm them in any way they are little more than a large crystalline formation. Unfortunately other predators often lurk around them making fights around those areas incredibly dangerous.

Life: A Cryxlin live most of its inactive only awakening when directly threatened or when it searches for food. Before going inactive they gather in great groups for protection, this allows them to deal with even the most vicious predators in the deep by awakening the horde and quickly dispatching it. If the threat is a less deadly threat then the awakened Cryxlin simply attacks and eats the prey.

Reproduction: A cryxlin is asexual and only reproduces once a year. When the cryxlin want to reproduce first must find a creature with a strong exoskeleton, it then sticks its tube like mouth into the poor creatures flesh and injects its eggs. Inside the creature the eggs grow and incubate inside its host for three weeks, mutating the creature’s insides to become more suitable for the young as the host experiences agonizing pain. After those three weeks the host dies and 10-30 young cryxlin pop out. These cryxlin grow for a little over a year before becoming adults and joining the cryxlin hive.

Diet: Cryxlin are mainly carnivores and usually will eat anything that moves, and some things that don’t. Cyxlin, when active have a hyperactive metabolism that allows them to move at incredible speeds when necessary but causes them to quickly loss energy. This problem is countered by their dormant state that slows their metabolism to a crawl. This makes it so that when active the cryxlin searches for prey with unmatched ferocity so that it can once again enter the safety of the dormant state.

Subspecies: Similar to the color and shape of the crystals of the area’s they live, this in turn makes some slightly stronger or weaker depending on the crystal.

Uses: Their shells are often used to make unique armor and other such items and otherwise fetch a good price in market in large quantity. Other than that it is unknown if there is anything else valuable that can be gained from them. Other than that cryxlin are impossible to tame as their alien minds makes it impossible for someone to truly tame. Though some eccentric rulers may use them as bizarre decorations or pets though they have to be incredibly careful to not be around them while active.
