So? A remake of a mod is better than updating someone else's mod without permission.

    That mod is fair use.

Nope. That is the illegal part, and no amount of rules can make it legal, period.

Not trying to cross IP lines.... yet trying to find a way to cross IP lines so you can update outdated mods. Right.

Doesn't matter what you believe. The fact is, it would be illegal regrdless of how innocent your intent, amount of credit given, etc. Its illegal to update outdated mods and release them. Period.[DOUBLEPOST=1441382072][/DOUBLEPOST]
All my mods are not free to use, but I do say "Just ask". 99.9% of the time, I say yes, but i don't want to give free reign off the bat.

It certainly is challenging, but when you do manage something then it really feels amazing at that point.

Something I rarely see mentioned in these threads (unless I am just oblivious) is what about mods with multiple contributions from various people.
Like even if lets say my mod was deemed abandoned, then someone went and updated it, and were allowed to thanks to some sort of crazy IP rights black hole created on this forum.
What about the content I had to get explicit permission to use, such as the font by Kawa and Letrune. It would royally shaft them if I just let people use my mods content without those taking it over having to also get permission from them as well. It would be near to impossible to enforce this scenario, without an insane investment in manpower by the operators of the forum. There are other mods that sit in this kind of grey area too floating around the repository, you can't step on one creators rights thanks to the actions of another.
New methods of contacting mod authors might be the sweet spot we are looking for. A lifespan on a mods abandonment seems like a total legal disaster for the curators of this forum. It just takes one board person with enough cash and time to throw at a lawyer to bring this all down in an IP rights fiasco.

That's not why Triage is valid. It's because we got Ryuujin to say something after months and months of pestering him even though he still browsed the forums on occasion.

I was not aware of that. However, that part I show does ensure that anyone can keep the mod updated.

And that's great. Anyone giving such permission allows others to do so. You have that choice, and for as long as people respect the *rights of mod authors*, you will continue to have that choice.

It's when people want to remove that choice that I have a problem.
