A few days ago, my friends and I were watching some of the Riddick movies, and I thought, wouldn’t it be cool if there were planets in starbound that had a dominant species like the ones in Riddick. You know, the type that only come out at night and hunt anything that moves, to get that real "alien" world effect! Wouldn’t it be fun to face off tons of aliens swarming at you, with only your on hand tools at your disposal, or create a team and survive with your best friends. Thats why im suggesting the idea of dominant species survival.

I was thinking how the dominant species would act. Any ideas so far are off the top my head.

(Keep in mind these are all just possibilities)

    The dominant species might...

    - be the only mob to spawn at night/day (not both).
    - have an increase in spawn rate. (There is a reason they are dominant)
    - decrease in health and attack (each being easy to kill, but have allot attacking you)
    - Ability to break blocks slowly (Causing you to have to really fight to survive during the horde, even if you have a fortress built)
    - Not always be every night, maybe once every full moon or randomly chosen.
    - have a lethal reaction to sunlight or any light source
    - gang up on lights placed for defense (if they receive damage by light sources)
    - have the ability to climb walls or jump high
    - have immunities (I.e. whereas some mobs aren't effected much by electricity, may have a weakness to fire)
    - come in waves (you get a tight 15 seconds before another wave comes, so make repairs quick)
    - have a hive (you bring the big guns to them and face off against the queen)
    - have unique (uncommon, rare or even legendary) item drops (items that are only obtainable through fighting alien hordes)

Well, the monsters at night are actually stronger than the ones at daytime.

    Maybe I'm just blowing smoke.
