Introduction This creatures are rare and appear frequently only in miths where they have miriad forms and powers comparable to that of gods. This are tales coming from a time in which they were numerous and their nests existed on different worlds but now they are dying and still live on just a few planet, one of which is 'The Alvearium', their homeworld. The various types of dragons that exist in legends are in truth various growth stages of a single species; when a dragon is about to undergo drastical changes in it's physiology it will cover itself in rock like crysalis and remain dormant for several minutes or even a few days only to awaken in his newly developed form. NEST: Dragons live in underground caves that can be up to 10 miles deep. The deeper part of the nest are infested by a fog venomous to many living being but necessary to raise the hatchlings as thay can't breath in any other enviroment. Units: Hatchling => Juvenile => Adult drake => Massive drake Hatchling => Juvenile => Vouivre => Gran vouivre => The Guardian Hatchling => Juvenile => Krait => Rune wyrm Hatchling: The hatchlings are often underestimated for their small size, soft scales and lack of limbs but have actually been capable of causing serious damage to tissues (they have teeth, go figure...). Little is known about them because the mist they live in is both letal and really thick and they are nurtured by either Gran Vouivres or by a really nasty dragon known as "the Guardian". Juvenile: When becoming a juvenile a larva suffers radical changes. A large quantity of the soft, white scales of its body harden and obtain a dark green coloration, similar to that of a crocodile, but the belly retains its white colour and softness. But the most astonishing event is that in an incubation time of just a few minutes our 'lizard' develops four fully functional appendages similar, again, to that of a crocodile; the head doesn't suffer radical changes besides having smaller eyes and a bigger brain giving it less sight but allowing him in adopting more bright, even if not particularly bright, strategies such as calling for reinforcements if feeling overwhelmed or on the verge of death. Adult drake: The females of the species. By the time a dragon reaches its third stage of development its considered fully adult. The adult drakes, also simply known as drakes, are known for the impervious hides that covers their entire bodies which makes extremely valuable armors. As you would expect, these armors are rare to be found as even the bravest swordman can be roasted alive by the newly developed flame breath of a drake. The size of a drake it's almost twice that of a juvenile dragon and, for this reason, they tend be quite sluggish but, when provoked, they are capable of surprisingly fast movements. Vouivre: The males of the species. This creatures have earned the name of 'vultures' because of their birdlike appearance and their ability to find animal carrions easily thanks to their sense of smell. This dragons retains the size of their previous form but are still feared by swordmen and gunslingers alike as, with their leathery wings and their projectiles of concentrated napalm, formidable foes. The head has underwent radical obtaining a chitinous beak and a long neck, which they use to scavenge dead bodies, and a bigger brain; in fact a vouivre is no dumb beast as he will hunt his prey from the shadows to don't risk to put to harm his relatively fragile body. Krait: Known for his psychic powers this runic serpent borns when a juvenile consumes a great quantity of meat belonging to creatures, or humans, with a strong connection with the arcane. Lacking in the offensive department its limbs have hatrophied to the point of looking more like fins than legs which has been speculated it uses to balance itself while levitating. Being little more than an annoyance alone, his abilities shine when alongside other dragons: his innate wisdom and telepathic powers allows it to coordinate its more feral allies with extreme precision and the psychic field it can easily hide its pack till the right moment and even increase the intelligence of other dragons in the area. Massive drake: After reaching its third stage of development a dragon will continue to grow of size and power untill reaching his ultimate stage. For an adult drake this 'apex form' is the massive drake, also known as 'mammoth drake' for having two small tusks, a monster as tall as a small building and an armor strong enough to rival that of a diamond golem. Entire armies have been incinerated by the scorching breath of this mighty beast who in some cases are known to be taken out only by orbital bombardments. Gran vouivre: This giant fliers are extremely inportant for the manteinance of the nest as they nurture the youngs and protect them while in their larva stage as cannibalism happens often between young without a 'big daddy' figure to mantain order. They are known to protect the deepest part of the colony but are also the only known dragon, along with younger vouivres, to scout miles away from it. In combat they often aid inexperienced creatures by flying high in the sky and melting their enemies with their burst of napalm and their precision of a marksman. Rune wyrm: The magic powers of a wyrm are considered formidable by eventhe most experienced adventurers; it can easily coordinate the movements of its allies even miles away and share with them a psychic link so strong it can experience everything they feel or see at will. There have been cases of wyrms sharing the feelings of the entire nest and, because of this, they have earned the title of 'hive king' but, in truth, they are incapable of fertilizing a female or giving birth to youngs so the are rarely referred as such. While their psychic links and magic powers already makes them a force to be reckoned with their most feared ability is their mesmerizing aura: many adventurers have forgotten how to wield a gun and may warriors have been reduced to barbarians with no sense of self preservation because of it. Even the few heroes who have actually killed one wyrm have forgotten the event after a month, a week and even just a few hours. The Guardian: This dragon has been shrouded in mistery for ages but the guardian is in truth a gran vouivre that develped beyond his apex stage after breeding. After impregnating a female the gran vouivre will receive her eggs, a behavior seen also in other animals like the hippocampus, and will rapidly trasform in a guardian. Only one of this kings can live in a dragon nest and, because of it, it's not rare that a newly "born" guardian will willingly go away to form a new nest where he will deposit his youngs. ________________________________________________________________________________________ Dragon data Hatchling THREAT LEVEL: 2 but in groups it shouldn't be underestimated STATS: HP: minimum Att: low Def: minimum Spd: minimum DESCRIPTION: A white worm with a lizard head. Please leave your opinion about it and don't be afraid to give suggestions or to correct grammatical errors
It sounds interesting. How would this work, though? Would it be a biome? A planet theme? Also, how common would the most powerful ones be? Would they be bosses, or just rare mobs? What sorts of loot would they drop? What would battling them feel like in-game? It's a nice idea, but it needs more detail, I think. Put some extra info in there!
nice ida but to small needs both more details and less magic as Starbound is science fiction not fantasy...(no magic in the universe...) perhaps they could be psychic?
I'm going to put all this information as fast as I can but for now I can tell you I imagine them as having an hive structure with a nest similar to an enormous ant-hill there will probably be different variations depending on the biome but this one should survive in a forest and volcanic biome!
Thanks really happy that someone is following this topic! I'm not good at all at drawing so often I help myself with image links! Honestly they would make good pets I'm going to put some informations about that in the future!
hold it....just pause right there...you meant snake nest? which I found out on japan's story about it, but pretty much it was murdering stories legend goes that I've believed. Anyway, back subject (try not side track). From reviewing we do have dragons already made in by another members very popular and he did made drake and you want to talk this guy here of his link profile: http://community.playstarbound.com/index.php?members/dragonith.5132/ note: I try find, but right now I am busy with another forum little struck me making me to look at now. Now pretty much the dragons already suggested, of course they said there shouldn't be no magic, but in sciences theories we should put into fiction in sciences that would make it much easy to be make it fun which this is his following point doing: http://community.playstarbound.com/index.php?threads/dragoknights.8329/ Which he is or I hopefully he is updating the different NPC dragon mobs is there. Now to the real point, as I am reading it sound good, but it remind me of "WoW" because if anyone remembers <.< and how the original idea how people fail so bad.
Just because some dragons or dragonlike mobs have been suggested before, does not mean that this guy should stop in my opinion. Dragons are a popular creature, but they also have much variety. If his dragons are different than Dragonith's dragons, isn't that still fine? I always like to think there's many species of dragons
I feel honored for having my work compared to Dragonith's, actually I am a fan of his work, but I must say that I think that they are pretty different. For example the drakes you were talking about (here's the link) are based on ducks while mine are wingless dragons. Someone supporting me Hurray!
Oh good, I think that we do need more mystic creature do the old and the new these day. Dang it is hard to type on iPad because I am using my friend's iPad. Note: I always sided track and learn it is not easy type on the iPad.
