Do you plan on adding dyemod support?

 

It's definitely something I've thought about, but I can't say for certain yet. There's a few personal things I have to work through before I can get back to working on the mod, but I'll be taking a look at the new stable update and the new dye system soon. I'll definitely try to add support for these new vanilla features, and support for the Dye Mod is something I might consider next. Dyeable tiles are something I most definitely plan to add though - they've been on my to-do list for quite some time now!

Lore-wise, it would be possible for other races to learn Avikan crafting recipes. The bone and leather items are nothing too special, and most of the work on metal items in the Crafting Station is done by the station itself - it's a mostly automated process. The hardest thing would probably be getting used to Avikan interfaces, but that too is something that can be learned. There's some races in the Elithian Alliance where this isn't the case though - some of the races use interfaces and technologies which truly are physically impossible for other races to use, but the Avikan aren't one of them.

The solution you're describing is exactly what I had in mind, actually - one or more quests which have to be completed by other races in order to unlock Avikan crafting recipes. I've added it to my to-do list!


A small update on the current state of the mod: there's a few things I have to work through before I can really get to working on the mod again, but my next step will be to look at all the changes brought on by the new Stable update and make this mod compatible with Glad Giraffe. Once that's done, I plan to release a compatibility update like I did with Pleased Giraffe, after which work continues on the new content such as settlements, quests and missions - and, of course, the next race! I hope to be able to reveal more on that relatively soon!

The new support for Tiled as a dungeon editor will hopefully speed up the development of new content quite a bit, too. So far, creating new settlements and dungeons has been a bit of a hassle, but Tiled looks like a pretty easy way to implement new areas (such as the Avikan Bunker settlement, and the Avikan Outpost I'm designing).

 

I have a bug weapons of avikan make no damage
otherwise have no other mod

What version of Starbound are you using? The mod currently only support Pleased Giraffe. Glad Giraffe, which is the latest version of Starbound, currently isn't supported, so using the mod on that version might cause issues. I'm working on a compatibility update for Glad Giraffe, but considering the amount of changes that came in Glad Giraffe, it might be a while before this mod is updated.

Either way, could you post your starbound.log here? I can use it analyse the issue and hopefully find out what is causing the issue.

The Perfectly Generic Items are most likely armor pieces - none of them currently work due to a couple of changes in armor files in Glad Giraffe. I've already fixed armor in my working version of the mod, but it isn't ready for a public release yet... I can't seem to find anything explaining the issue with weapons at first glance - I'll be looking into that soon. I only recently started looking into the changes in weapons so it might be a while before I get those working again, but rest assured - this will be fixed in the Glad Giraffe Compatibility Update!

For now, there's little you can do... The mod will remain broken until I finish the compatibility update. You can continue playing in Glad Giraffe if you don't mind the absence of Avikan items, but be warned that there may be more unusual issues. You could also try reverting to Pleased Giraffe until the next mod update, but I'm not quite certain what the best approach for downgrading your game would be as I have no experience with it.

Tiered ships are supported in all versions of the mod! The Avikan Mod already had a lot of content on its first release, including tiered ships and almost everything else the vanilla races have. You can take a look at the Updates tab to see what was added or changed in each version of the mod.

Glad Giraffe comin to the public yet? I could help with testing it. And the weapon system reworked might be the cause of zero dmg weapons. Maybe try asking someone what they had to do to make their weapons compatible? I think that the way the hunting pool is formatted for the weapons was changed, so the code for the weapons spazzed out and dit the classic "Set Dmg to zero" failsafe. When pg came out, the mysterious gates had weapons with no damage showing us this failsafe. Well that's all just opinion, and keep us posted on the progress!

 

It's not quite ready yet, unfortunately... I did figure out what was causing the zero damage issue, though: the weapons have a vanilla status effect on them which has been removed in Glad Giraffe. Now,whenever a weapon tries to deal damage, the system aborts halfway through because it can't find the status effect any more.

I'm working hard on updating the mod, but it's taking quite some time because I essentially have to rebuild every weapon in the mod to use the new 'active item' system.

 

Jeez... Kinda makes me want to rethink my computer programmer career. Can't IMAGINE how hard it is to go through all that tenfold to actually MAKE a game... Wow.

 

Aegonian this is a beautiful mod and as a modder myself I know it takes time. Please do not overwork yourself for the sake of the community. I know it means a lot to you that we enjoy what you've created, but that doesn't mean you should stress yourself out. I think we can all wait patiently as long as you take care of yourself as well.

 

Pssh...modding and game design are on two ends of the spectrum, Programming isn't as hard as it looks.

 

Here's an update on the current progress of the compatibility patch, for all of you waiting for the next patch:

-All weapons and armour pieces have been fixed. Weapons deal damage again and most weapons have been converted to the new 'active item' system, meaning they can have special attacks and other cool features. Daggers, shortswords and axes haven't been converted yet as there are no vanilla examples yet (the vanilla weapons still use the old weapon system). Some of the Avikan weapons have gained special attacks, and I'll be creating more unique special abilities in the future! Do note that some weapons you have on your current character might be lost. For example, the randomly generated Centensian weapons, such as the Jumprifles and Jumpcannons, will have to be acquired again. They used the old generated weapon system, meaning they didn't have a unique ID before, but they have a unique ID now so the old weapons will be lost.

-There have been changes to monster drops, so drop rates might be different than before. Glad Giraffe pretty much got rid of general monster drops in favour of a unique drop pool for each monster type, so Monster Bones will hardly ever drop from normal kills now. Instead, you have to use Avikan hunting weapons to gather bones and leather reliably. Most of the new unique monsters drop these items when killed with a hunting weapon, but not all of them (monsters made of metal or goo, for example, won't drop Avikan hunting materials).

-There have also been changes to quests, as quests were also overhauled in Glad Giraffe. I haven't had a chance to really test what happens to existing characters yet, but I imagine your quest log might look a bit odd if you look at previously completed quests. The Keffrider quest is getting a larger makeover as well, with changes to its rewards and quest steps, so for the best experience, you should probably create a new character.

-I'm currently working on converting the Keff (the hoverbike) to an actual vehicle instead of a tech. It will behave and look a bit differently from what you're used to, but I can't show you the final version yet.

-As for the estimated release date, the update should be done in a couple of days, if all goes as planned!
