Okay, first off, i apologise of any spelling or grammar mistakes i make. Second, this is either going to be really confusing or very easy to understand. So to start this discussion off the title basically says it all. Every item, equip, or craftable item has multiple parts. So for example if you have say a laser gun, the parts would include: 1 Barrel 1 Trigger 1 Body X Amount of Ammo So if you have all 3 of those things in your inventory, ( Barrel, Trigger, Body ), and you meet the required requirments, Say you need to be by a crafting table, at the space station and you need to have X amount of quests done. But this would make no sence if you went to the crafting table and you had nothing but those parts and you magically threw them at eachother and they made a laser gun. No, you could start the game off with it, or have to finish a very hard quest to get this awesome feature of crafting awesome things, to be logical a welding tool. To be fair, there could be more "less fun way" to craft things so you main goal at the beginning of the game is to finish this quest. Now you have the welding tool and you items. You walk up to the crafting table or whatever it will be and the interface pops up with a 6x6 block where you then put the items in in a certain patter to create a image that looks like a laser gun. Your probably going to stop reading right about here because your saying to yourslef "what a rip-off of minecraft this idea sucks". Well yes this does sound a little bit like minecraft but i have come up with a few ideas to give Starbound its own individualality. Here are the ideas. 1) You could turn crafting into a mini-game. So for example your welding a barrel to a body. You then have a vertical bar with 4 sections of colours, Red, Orange, Yellow, and Green. If you land in the red your item is welded poorly and it has bad stats, low damage, and may miss fire or something from time to time and either not shoot or shoot in some random direction every 1 in 100 shots. Orange would be average stats, average damage, and miss fire or random fire very rarely maybe 1 in every 1000 shots. Yellow would be good stats, good damage, and never miss fire or random fire. Green would be Godly stats, Godly damage, and have a 10% chance or so to double fire. Obviously the red column would be the biggest with the orange one about 3/4 of the size, the yellow being 1/2 the size of the red column and the green column being half the size of the yellow column so there is a very slim chance of getting green but it is still possible. If you think this would still be too easy and everyone would have only godly items then we could add this rule. Once you complete the quest to give you this super awesome crafting feature you would start off with only the red zone. then you would have to craft something like 5 items and do a quest. In order to get the yellow column you must complete 5 quests and make 25 items. And in order to get the green column you would have to do 25 quests and make 50 items. 2) There could be 3 types of crafting tables. 1, the one you start off with at the beggining of the game. 2. the one you earn by doing a quest, I.E the one i just mentioned up there ^. 3. One you obtain by mining any type of block from any planet. You then get an achievement and obtain this crafting table beside the one in the space station. This one is used for making the parts you use to make items. For example making a barrel of a laser gun. You would use say 5 Y bars. Substitude Y for any mateirial that you want to make a barrel of a gun. So you could make a barrel out of sand a barrel out of dirt but why would you want to do that? Okay so you could make that on this crafting bench. This one wouldnt have a game or anything it would just be if you have it in your inventory and your close to the bench then you can make it. Okay so this has been my ideas on crafting and i would absolutly LOVE for this to make it into the game. I think this would make this games crafting experience one of the best in all of gaming. I hope alot of people agree with me and eventually it gets added to blue's list. So to recap, there would be 3 benches of crafting, lets call them, Item Bench, Crafting Bench, And Equip Bench. You obtain them all in different ways. And to me, this idea incorperates the idea about 21000 different designs for a flamethrower very well. So if you do like this please like it and leave a comment. Please feel free to critique it in your comments and have a wonderful day =D
Most guns already do have "parts" these parts are all randomly chosen to make a random new gun every time you get one (or armour, etc) and parts have stats, so I think that already pretty much covers it?
