Notice Hangout thread limits (Please read)

Because of the massive amounts of upcoming server load, and the unfortunate tendency of huge threads to eat up our CPU, memory and hard drive. We're asking that you keep clan threads to under 500 pages.

After hitting 500 pages, please just make a new thread.

If the amount of zombie threads becomes a problem and drowns out less active clans, we'll make an clan archive forum to deal with that.

 

Homestuck'll be blowing through them huh.

I did, and I understand.

It just sorta... happened as soon as I went to refresh to page.

 

But clans like infinity will go through that 100 page limit within a few weeks.
Would it really be all that much better to create multiple threads at such a pace?

 

I am surprisingly OK with this.

 

It's much nicer on the server. Orders of magnitude nicer. Literally, 100 to 1000 times nicer, at least.

If extra thread spam becomes a organizational problem we can make an archive forum to keep the elder threads of yore.

 

Fair enough. We'll be able to put our external forums to good use, throwing random chatter there instead.

 

Totally not against random chatter, it's just that, we had a hard database crash earlier today because we were deleting some posts at the request of a user. Each delete was taking over 5 minutes to get through the database on this thread because the thread was so large, and then the server just choked on a query and it took the entire forums down, I had to rebuild the index and perform a partial restore from a backup.

100? 500? Don't really care what the limit winds up being, but, there clearly needs to be one.

 

To me 100 seems a bit small, as larger clans can go through that quite quickly.
A limit seems reasonable if the threads create that much of an issue, seems to e pretty bad, but perhaps at 500 would be a better limit?

 

I think that it doesn't really matter how much everyone complains about how 100 pages will go by so fast, as much as it is a problem that Omni has to deal with the forums crashing due to large threads.

So is this just for clan threads or does our Homestuck thread in the chat section count? I would imagine it does, but I'm just getting a confirmed answer.
