How to grow trees?

How do you grow trees? i put pine cones on the ground but can"t water them. Also, the next day, one was gone. Please help! Thanks in advance!

 

Plop them and let nature do the rest.

It is said that you can plant trees in the wilderness if you till the mud.

 

I don't know why was gone but they grow naturally. No need to water or care for them. They also grow in winter.

I didn't know mushroom trees could be tapped to get different mushrooms !

 

You can also grow oak, maple and pine trees off the farm by tilling the dirt and planting their seeds - I plan to exploit this feature fully in my next save by covering all areas with trees, cobblestone paths and grass.

 

Neat... I wish I could do that but with mushroom trees xD
