I saw this contest much earlier, but didn't think I would participate. Leave it to me to change my mind at the last minute! Anyway, here's my entry. I wish my artistic skills were a match for some of the other entries, but I hope my written details make up for it.

The Incubator Orchid, nicknamed the "spawnpoppy," is a large carnivorous plant found in tropical climates. It lies motionless until prey approaches, at which point it will lash out with its tendrils ( the "DNA extractors") to collect a genetic sample. The tendrils then withdraw behind the petals and the petals close into a tight ball (the "incubation chamber"). In a short time, it produces a crude clone of its victim. This duplicate is under the spawnpoppy's control, and the plant will use it to attack, kill, and collect its unfortunate meal.

The first clone is a weak copy of the original, barely formed and miscolored. If it is allowed to continue, however, the spawnpoppy will refine its formula and produce more clones, each one a stronger and more accurate copy than the last. This ability is especially effective against small parties, as it would soon become impossible to tell the difference between the duplicates and the original, leading to confusion among the ranks.

The one saving grace is that the spawnpoppy is extremely territorial against others of its kind, and so are always encountered alone. If two or more ever grow too close together, they will engage in a "clone war" with whatever lifeforms happen along until only one plant remains.

I do like this idea, don't get me wrong, but I think it belongs in a horror movie rather than a game.

I see your point. I just liked the idea of a bunch of duplicates chasing players around.
