Race Lycanthropes-A Wolf Race (Playable)

and you like what you like for what you like.

 

Im not saying lycanthropes are a bad idea (kind of op tho) but if the devs added a race for each fandom that wanted one we'd have pony-people, zombie-people, jesus-people, etc.

 

As much as I love werewolves, no. I see a few problems with this race. Werewolves are cool and all, but I feel that they do not go well with the StarBound atmosphere. First, anyone else see a major Mary Sue here? Huge military power, extreme education, vast numbers... The Lycanthropes seem to have to many things going their way. Also, if you want this to be a playable race, the weaknesses have to do with the Lycans themselves, not their planet or their systems. From what we know about StarBound, the homeworld of their species does not affect gameplay very much at all. So having the faults of the race be connected to their planet of origin is completely unfair. I hope you guys get what I'm saying, this is just my opinion.

 

This is just a fan race, it will NOT be in the game. Maybe as a mod though, if someone decides to take the time to do all the nescessary work.

pony people? copyrighted... okay, ponies themselves aren't, but I think the bronies would probably rather make an MLP mod instead. Zombie isn't really a race/species. Religion isn't either. As you say, they can't add a race for every single fandom out there, but if lots of people like it, they might consider it. Who knows for sure what they will do? It's up to the devs.

They aren't really werewolves. I think they're just misnamed. An anthro wolf race would fit the game just fine though. They're definitely overpowered; this is supposed to be changed. Some of us suggested turning it into a general race of all canids, not just wolves, but it's just an idea so far. It would appeal to more people, anyway.

I think the plan, or what should be the plan, is to initially make it a mod. Then, if it makes it into the game, it does. If it doesn't, then it's still there as a mod.
Some of the best mods may be integrated into the game officially.

 

Yeah, I think a canine race would be awesome, just not the way this thread represents it. (No offense)

 

I have been gone for a while guys,I was thinking of quitting the forums because of all the trolling. (Don't say it wasn't. It was. Atleast it felt that way,Some people have good points,some don't and just seem to be here to flame.) But I have came back.The summer update will be a major fix. When I make an update its kind of a test for me. Will people like this? Am I doing something wrong in this post? I have gotten lazy over the past few months. But I think I just needed a break. I will be reading all the comments for a while, then proofreading my original post. Obviously, there are many good things about this thread,and also many bad things. I thought it was good when 276 people liked this, I guess I was wrong.

If your here to actually help me improve this thread. I would really appreciate if you helped me on the bad stuff, Perhaps specific parts in the sections would help. I appreciate criticism when its actually helping me.

Nobody was trolling. I don't know how long you've been around, but the purpose of this forum is to bounce ideas off of one another until we get something that everyone likes and hopefully it gets implemented. Don't be discouraged by not having one idea go over well, though. You're still creative enough to help out. I'm sure that there are suggestions that need help, and that's what all of us are here for. There's no need to leave because regardless of what we do or don't like we're still one community.

But that's wrong as well, One of the devs stated it doesn't matter if there is a clear winner, it matters if a lot of the community wants the idea, and telling from 176 people, well..

 

Because the guy is suggesting a playable race. Not a race that is already playable.

 

Honestly after debating on whether I should support this suggestion or not, I decided I should, because it's going to be funny if it did get ingame.

Well here's my criticism:

Do a massive re-haul of the OP. Honestly, right now, it's rather bland and the lack of structure made me quickly lose focus. Presentation is an extremely important aspect here. Perhaps make use of BB-Code, or if you're a skilled perfectionist, use elements of graphic design.

Scrap the name.

Clean up some information in the OP. Remove unnecessary info. Make it brief and clear as to who or what your race is.

Give it a more unique feel; give us something "new". I'll admit, humanoid wolves are quite common, even in fandoms. Show us something we've probably haven't seen before. Add and subtract visual details to create your own unique race, rather than directly basing it off something. Make sure that, upon creating the race, its sprite [if ever you make one] is different from the other ingame race sprites. This is vital to creating a race that stands out. Remember, the developers want something that appeals to them.

If possible, give them a specific culture and stick with it. Make sure that culture is unique enough! If you can't think of any, creating one can be just as fun. Just be sure to keep your culture consistent with the visual elements of your race.

Lastly, be sure to avoid cliche stuff as much as possible. It's fine to have it if that's the intention, but keep in mind that you're trying to let the developers know that your race is fit for Starbound.

Keep in mind you're not obligated to do any of these. They're merely here as a suggestion to improve your race.

 

Yep, we will be working on it now actually. Will redo the OP, art, sprites, theme, and name.

 

Maybe instead of them just simply being anthro-dogs. They could have a subtle alien-ish aspect, like 4 ears instead of just 2. Kinda like the Hylotl are salamanders, but with 3 eyes instead of 2, like our Earth salamanders.

 

We formed a conglomerate to redo this race. Care to get in on the convo?

Yup, it doesn't mean the race will definitely be in the game officially. None of us can make that guarantee. But it means that the general idea (not necessarily the exact idea) isn't so terrible. There is no overwhelming majority against the idea. A good deal of people do like it! But it does definitely need work. I don't think anyone is disputing that. Hopefully, the focus will be on making it a mod. Then, maybe, it would be in the game officially someday. Or maybe not. No way to know.

 

Guild Wars 2 already did the whole 4 ears thing, but I definitely agree with you wholeheartedly. I like the idea of giving them large reptilian tails but coated in fur and stuff like that...will keep the rest in discussion before I post anything about it here..
