Map of Fortuna Mk. 1, helpfully provided by @Tatterdemalion This is a map of Fortuna overall, as well as the nearby kingdoms. The darkened areas represent forests. Castle Fortuna is represented by the large town near the center of the map. Russe is a small town which you may hear of at some point; it isn't of much consequence. More towns, as they are mentioned, may be added to the map. A map of the castle is forthcoming, as is a map of Fortuna town itself. The OOC thread is here. @quitaren12 @Gilligan Lanley The tall Glitch has been on the road to Fortuna for days, hailing from the faraway land of his family's exile. The number of travellers around him has been steadily increasing as he nears Castle Fortuna in the sunset. Suddenly, he catches a glimpse of white and brown up ahead. An unusually short figure stumbles into view, moving slowly, exhaustedly. @Roland Weiss The cloaked figure stands in front of the last small door barring her way into the city. The lock is an easy one, just as the other door's lock had been. Nobody else is nearby in this small, darkened corridor, she knows. @zeskorion The tall Novakid in the bright coat draws curious glances from the people of Fortuna, who seem to be mostly Apex or Human, as he arrives in the city with his wagon. The town is typical, a maze of houses - most of which look rather flammable - and narrow alleys lining the muddy street.
With a torsion wrench in one hand, and a lockpick in the other, the cloaked figure got to work on the last lock. She carefully raked the tumblers of the lock with the pick before applying torque with the wrench.
Nook sees all the stares. These are exactly what he wants. What shall he please them with today ? What would jab small holes in these folk's wallets? He looks for anything that seems to be... Troubling them
The lock is easily defeated. Only a small door stands between Fieke Schmidt and the city of Fortuna. There are black lengths of fabric decorating some of the houses, draped across storefronts. Curious though the people may be, they seem vaguely worried and scared. It's not clear what's troubling them, exactly. A boy approaches the wagon, seeming more curious than afraid. He hails the brown Novakid.
Tucking the tools she was using into one of pockets of her coat, Fieke took a deep breath, then exhaled. She pushed the door open, and stepped though, closing the door behind her. Adjusting the hood of her coat, she walked into the city.
Miratha pants out, the heat of the south getting to her. She staggers around the path. Raising her free clawed hand up to block the sun, she attempts to gaze further down the path.
@Arra A silver-haired Human soldier patrols the inside of the wall. Due to the recent death of the king, security has been stepped up a bit. As he comes into view of a door in the wall, he sees a hooded figure slip through it. A guard patrolling the wall comes into Fieke's peripheral vision. The thicket of narrow streets and dark alleys that is Fortuna is only a sprint away for her. "Are you a wizard?" chirps the young Avian. A woman who's probably his mother marches up beside him, placing a hand on his shoulder protectively. "What might you be selling?" she asks, more cautiously. Thankfully, there appears to be a town not far ahead. Convenient, no? @Tatterdemalion (you can come in, if you'd like) Some of the travelers are focused on the road ahead or on other things and do not even see Miratha, others glance at her and consider her an oddity, while a few look at her in curiosity or even pity.
The last thing she needed to do was to invoke suspicion by suddenly bursting out into a run. So Fieke maintained her steady pace towards depths of the town.
-nook "I may be a wizard. I sell anything you can imagine! rare goods, spices, tinctures, potions! anything you can imagine! except for happiness, you cannot make happiness"
Scheiße. Should have expected him not to let me go quietly. Fieke Stopped and turned to face the guardsman. Clearing her throat in a vain attempt to hide her accent, she declared, "Just taking a bit of a walk; unless that's suddenly become illegal." She turned away, continuing her stroll, keeping the guard on the periphery of her view.
" No, not at all. But just be careful, strange things have been happening lately " { Satisfied by the answer, but the guard continues to follow at a distance }
Picking up her pace, Fieke ducked into a nearby alleyway. She would make a beeline for the closest crowded space, hopefully losing the tailing guard.
"Have you any healing potions?" The woman asks. Her son, disregarding that, pipes up, "Show us some magic!" The beginnings of a crowd are beginning to form around the wagon, their attention drawn by the 'wizard' and the two Avians. The alleyways twist and turn, often with buckets of refuse or other obstacles blocking the way of Fieke and Delzin. While both are equally fast, the guard is able to maneuver around the obstacles more easily, even with his light armor. He's catching up.
-nook "healing potions are very very expensive. You may want a specific remedy." he retreats inside the wagon, and soon the side drops down, revealing a small storefront with an awning, the side forming a sort of stage
Scoffing at the persistence of the guardsman, Fieke mumbled to herself, "Zweiten plan; make the act of following me so boring he'll go elsewhere." Once more taking a leisurely pace, she make it look like she was simply sightseeing. However the black banners caught her attention, and paused for a moment to look. "Was ist with all the black? Are they mourning or something?"
Miratha exhales deeply, wiping her brow and adjusts her gear. She grips her walking stick and continues to hobble forward "Why in th' blue blazes did I tink dis 'er was a good idea..." Miratha mutters to herself meekly, "Be nice if der was a bit o wind doh, but no... had t' be neer bit o' shade neider. 'Least I'm almost dere."
