This reminds me of Halo skulls kinda a little bit

 

i loved that game

 

penguins currently only have 1/4 the vote that fossils do. I like fossils, they sound like a constantly usable and fun feature.

FOSSILS!

Fossils have been in many Starbound mocks we've shared. But sadly they've been pushed back to a non-priority. They would add so much character to worlds. They'd tie into a lot of systems. I drew the penguins and really love 'em. But gimmie fossils!

Basically, theoretically (seriously this system is 0% built, just some art is done for it) you would use a tool to carefully extract fossils from the ground. There would be a lot of fossil types. Some really rare, others really common. They'd do a variety of things like add to the atmosphere, be used in crafting on all sorts of things like perhaps armor. They might help you obtain dna for a T-Rex pet. They might help you summon a boss. They could do a variety of things.

All these are my ideas and I don't know if they'd stick (they're off the top of my head, these ideas are NOT confirmations of anything). We'd have to see what we could do. But I can't be the only one as a kid who dreamed about finding a T-Rex fossil in the ground!

So you all know what I like out of these two.

 

Not everyone will be looking to play as a penguin in the longshot, maybe special abilities could be neat, but they won't be as universal as fossils, especially since we don't know the capabilities of them yet. As people have speculated, it could very well lead to some sweet advancements, and if not, then some nice collecting.

oh god not animal crossing that game get extemely boring after awhile

 

While I think penguins are adorable and I would like to play as cute little races like that, fossils just sound like a much more compelling game element that people will enjoy in the long run.

Gonna go with fossils. Who doesn't like unearthing the remains of an alien T-Rex?

 

Honestly holy shit that was fast and briliant..

 

Let's be honest here, both are going to be implemented anyway.

 

I do have a question if I may. since this system is completely undeveloped, who would be taking care of it to make sure development wasn't slowed? would another new member be hired?
