i dont think breeding is going to happen ( atleast not to the degree of crossbreeding new kinds of things) but as for capturing the for yourself.... i like that idea! though how long does the larva/ adults take to eat an ore? will they grow bigger if they eat say, 3 times more ore than the the next beetle?
Not sure how long it should take for them to consume the ore, but I don't think that the adult beetles should get any larger or continue to eat ores.
reading the title made me think of crystal lizards from demon's souls and dark souls d: i think ore beetles would be pretty cool, but they should be rare and only appear every so often also they should of course drop whatever ore they ate or whatever ore they have a shell made of etc. but them dropping pixels, im not sure how i feel about them dropping any at all since you'd get a nice amount of ore i think them dropping like 1 or 2 pixels and plenty of ore works out fine(but then again im just thinking of the crystal lizard drops from the souls games d: )
ya it would be interesting to add a passive species that never becomes bad at all like in tarraria the fish and bunnies become bad when they get corrupted or there is a blood moon
Hnng, science nerd tweaking at this. ok so one thing I hope the starbound devs get right is this at least. bronze harder then iron which is harder then copper which is harder then silver which is harder then gold. gold is so soft you can bend it with your fingers if you press a little. thank you for learning something new today. that said.. I may bother drawing something for this sooner or later, it sounds simple enough.
This is a game... Not everything has to be perfectly life-like. But, that aside thanks for considering to do artwork for this.
Oh I know, but I am also of the mindset that doing things that are excessively objectively "wrong" under the motto of "its a game" isn't really valid. anybody with a elementary understanding of geology knows gold and silver are soft metals, yet games often portray them as better then iron, or even steel in some cases. but that's mainly just my whole scientific/realistic side that freaks out with things that push "its just a game" a little too far in my opinion. its the same reason I protested against the "landing/building on stars" type suggestions. it is a nice idea though.
This is really interesting! As for an idea, perhaps a tamed adult ore beetle can shed it's shell periodically allowing you to use them as a mild materials booster?
Thanks for putting effort into making a sketch/drawing for the mob. Personally I think that the mandibles and antennae should be smaller, I also think that the shell shouldn't have spots and should be colored the color of the ore it consumed the most. Despite the changes that I would appreciate, I genuinely thank you for your effort.
i think this would be a good idea. maybe you could feed the ore beetle pet some ore to increase its stats and color
I don't think its lady bug, but a beetle that that roll around the dirt ball and use it for something....I think its this guy...(note its called a rhino beetle), but close enough. anyway, when its eating ore if you capture larva and tame it...how its going produce material ores for us?
