Possible to add schedule to a new character via XNB modding only?

Hey everyone, been playing around with adding a new villager (through XNB file editing only, haven't experimented with the SMAPI yet). I've experimented with adding a new "Julie.yaml" file in Content/Characters/schedules, however I haven't been able to make it work in-game (instead she just stands there unmoving). I've edited the map file to include a path for her to start/end at, yet it still makes no difference.

I was just wondering if anyone has managed to accomplish this yet (through XNB modding only), and if so, would you be able to point me at an example I can look at? If not, is this something possible through SMAPI? I'd rather stick to XNB mods if I can, because it seems like they're an easier type of mod for layperson to install. However if SMAPI can do this, maybe it's worth looking into.

Anyway, thank you in advance for your help :)

This might sound stupid, but are you actually putting the yaml file itself in the schedules folder? Or the packed xnb file?
