Starbound is all about randomness. But sometimes seeing a premade monster might be nice. Also only seeing these not-so evolved monsters might get a little lonely. Finding some group of adventures on a planet, either friendly or aggressive, it could add some nice variety. For this example i will be using zombies. Zombies would spawn if the right conditions were met. 1) Either there would be something radioactive in the area. 2) A graveyard is in the area. 3) In a dungeon (Abandon mines, post apocalyptic city/town ect. ) And just as all of the randomly generated monsters in this game, zombies would be put together by the game itself just like everything else. Hair, head, clothes, hands, pants, skin tone, eye color, speed, attack, defense. Every aspect would be randomly put together. Some might have only one hand, some might have a gun with them, other would have their brain poking out or without a head entirely! Mostly i would like to find some humanoid enemies, not just a 4 legged monster.

Already in the game, to some extent. We have s, s, s and s (the latter as a Minecraft reference, naturally). I guess a few more would be nice... ...except s. They're quickly becoming overused. Not every game needs them, especially Starbound.
But what about Mutated Avian, Rusty Glitch, Dead Florian or something like that. Basically mutated versions of races. This game really needs humanoid-like monsters. Plus i just like the idea of being surrounded by "dead" races. It just seems really awesome! Maybe the game could have an event where your in a old abandoned mine and then suddenly, monsters start to slowly walk closer to you, surrounding you.
Listen to what people are trying to say you. They don't mean that your idea is bad. It's always good to have more options (or to meet more mobs). But zombies reek of boringness, that's why they are no more interesting. You could make something more then just dead avians. Think about a Legion, a giant monster - floating face, made of human bodies, living bodies. You could suggest this, but this is my idea, think something else! =P
Well I'm completely fine with not having zombies, what I really feel is that this game seems to lack humanoid enemies (at least i haven't seen any battle with em) an that kinda makes the world feel empty. Zombies can be as they may, but nobody can go wrong with fighting another intelligent race
Plus, if you look at my main post, you can see that i said "For this example i will be using zombies". The main thread is still semi-premade monsters, which i think isn't a bad idea
But undeads are zombies, aren't they :S? But in any case i haven't seen any type of enemy humanoids yet (i have seen the villages but thats another story.) But adding demons and skeletons? Awesome!
Skeletons and demons are also overused. I'm fairly certain that humanoid enemies are possible (or planned) in the random monster generator.
Starbound has living slimes and pretty much all the randomly generated monsters look like generic pokemon, zombies wouldn't exactly be too cliche for this...
As i mentioned earlier, if you read my main post again you will see that i said "For this example i will be using zombies.". The main idea of the thread is adding some semi-premade monsters into the game.
i can PROMISE you, there are way more zombie movies and games than robots, and slime? really? no, not at all, they are nowhere near as used in games.
Living slimes have been extremely common in video games (OK, mostly Japanese ones, most of them are ported and translated though). They don't really have a lot of games dedicated to them but the sheer amount of them in games makes them "unoriginal" by default. Besides, if you wanted this game to "avoid cliches" you'd get a feature starved piece of crap that would bore even a tree to death. It's not like they're asking to make this a zombie game, just use zombies as a mostly uncommon enemy.
Yeah, if zombies were an unncommon or even rare enemy, that would suprise the player and add some spice into the game. They wouldn't just pop up randomly in the night, but they would have a chance to spawn when there is radiation in the air, thus having a reason why they spawn (as we all know, this game has a lore and these small details would help it along)
