Closed Quest can't be completed

I'm making this thread for a good friend of me, as I haven't encountered this issue myself.

Me and my pal have just updated Starbound, and thus were required to repeat the quests all over again. However, for whatever reason, his Avian character cannot finish one of the earliest quest: Handing a Wooden Crafting Table to a NPC in the Outpost. He has the Crafting Table in his inventory, but the NPC does not register this for whatever reason.

Are there any suggestions how to solve this issue?
