    Ever annoyed by Meteorites?
Ever wanted to build you own house in an Airless Planet?
Ever wanted to be able to go on a stroll in a volcanic planet without being bombarded by Meteorites at some point?
Hate mining Brains so you can protect yourself from meteorites because they take forever to gather?
Too salty because your brand-new building has been bombed out?
Then, the brand new, high-Tech, Surface-Air Missile is for you!
"What is this?" You may ask. This is an automatic laser turret specifically designed to take out airborne threats! It may be unable to actually target simple things such as birds because it's targeting system is so simple it can't target anything without a constant, easily-predictable trajectory; but Meteorites are just one of the things that can be shot down by these things!
Just call at 432564765474 for info, and, at the simple cost of 1299 Pixels, you can buy your own S.A.L plans!
"Fine, fine. Can you stop with the TV shop salesman persona? It's taking forever this way"
    Alright.
The S.A.L is a turret that, unlike the Defense Turret, can be removed and re-placed at no additional cost (After all, it would take some time to make an efficient anti-Meteorite system), as it drops itself when destroyed.
Similarly to the Player, SALs have a limited energy supply that is quickly replenished while not firing. They have enough Energy to fire for 3 seconds.
Before specifying the damage they deal, it is worth noting that Meteorites aren't destroyed instantly, and instead have a health meter: Normal Meteorites (The ones that fall in Meteor Shower events) have 2 Health, while Large Meteorites have 15 Health. If they reach 0 Health, they are destroyed and drop items instead of exploding (They drop Meteorite Rock, and can sometimes drop ores, or, rarely, Tentacle Clusters).
Each S.A.L deals 3 DPS against Meteorites, and it can target and fire at several Meteorites at once, which multiplies the Energy cost by the amount of lasers fired. Multiple S.A.Ls can fire at the same Meteorite, stacking their total DPS against the shared target.
    S.A.Ls have a 100-Block radius and have a size of 3*4.
They're crafted at the Wiring Station similarly to normal Defense Turrets.
The crafting recipe is always available, and consists of:
    6 Durasteel Bars.
    2 Batteries.
    6 Refined Aegisalt.
    1 Proximity Sensor.
    4 Silicon Boards.

    is that even working reliably?

because the core issue with Starbound is that the game renders meteorites at the top of the screen and not in the sky, so it cna be a meteorite just strikes one tile above a house and kaboom, stuff explodes.

if CF would have made emteors (and how assets are laoded in the game) with more range that wouldn't happen because we could build proper protection.

Well, I'm proposing a way to make it possible to stop them, but I guess that is more of an issue that has to be changed rather than anything else.

yes bt that way would fundamentally need to rewrite elemtnts of hsw the world is loaded in Sb and even how the meteorites work. because the technical implemention of them both is done in a way that makes protection rather impossible outside anythign than underground building that gives meeteors no technical conditions to spawn. .
