Shop owners absent.. When they're supposed to be open!

something to bear in mind, a lot of these people run their businesses from their homes. Most homes are open from 9 am until fairly late in the evening, 7 to 8 most cases, I think Pierre's doors are unlocked till 9? and Elliot, being the recluse he is, locks up at 6. Once a week Marnie and Gus run to the store to restock and shop for home items. So does Harvey. While it IS frustrating, I think it adds a little more realism to their lives and routines. Also, they do go to the doctor, though I don't recall the frequency. I do feel your pain, though. Once, I was ready to buy chickens, and it seemed like it was a week before i could actually catch Marnie at her shop. And on at least 2 occasions I got to Pierre's counter just in the nick of time. He had already turned to walk away, and most cases this would signal a S.O.L., but I guess Pierre is so profit driven, he will still sell, even if he's not facing the counter, lol.

 

RIGHT?! its infuriating because it delays everything several days, especially with robin because she takes several days to build stuff. what i wanted finished in about 3 or 4 days could suddenly take a week or more because her ass is nowhere to be found

 

I am in no way saying they would HAVE to stand at their desk at all times but then they need to be more transparent with their opening hours. cuz as it is they just walk off and you have no idea. they need to have opening hours on a sign next to the door like the museum/library

operating out of their homes does not change the availability of this option

 

Also I think Pierre has hours on his shop door if you go there when it's closed and I don't think he stays open that late or it even hints at that but he will leave early which is messed up.

I've never seen him working after 5 PM but seen him quit at 4 PM before. The door says 5 and there's no reason to believe that shouldn't be the case. Even the wiki says 5 pm.

 

-sigh- its one of my biggest peeves about this game. i come in and i am litteraly ready to spend thousands.. and theyre not there. when you have a business with people in the community ready to spend that much money as frequently as i/we do you cannot afford to just walk off whenever. these people must have 0 business sense

Marnie even says she could use the cash and Pierre's says business is tough. WELL MAYBE if you were tending to the store like YOURE SUPPOSED TO, you wouldnt be losing business. i would bring you way more if you were available to buy shit from. Ive had to go to joja sometimes in place of pierre because he wasnt there or he was closed on wednesdays which.. if business is tough, why would you close on a wednesday, its midweek, loads of people shop then. At least joja knows how to man the register at all times when theyre open

only reason I ever, EVER go into Joja mart was to deliver a quest item, gift for a birthday, or to peek and see what wall paper/flooring Pierre would have tomorrow. I never even bought sunflower seeds there, even though they are ridiculously cheaper there than at Pierre's (from what I remember reading on the wiki). (I worked for Wal-mart for sometime and I can't not notice the similarities between the two, hence my never ending hatred for the place, I will never go the Joja route. achievement or no achievement.)

 

yeaah i feel ya, i havent purchased from them more than.. idk 5 times? maybe. i usually also only go in to give gifts. but especially at the end of the season if i KNOW i can get one more crop out if i plant them today and pierre isnt there or open, ill go into joja. im not losing out on profits and future development on the farm just because he thinks he can work all dilly dally like its not important if he finishes his shift or wants to be open on wednesdays.

 

Pierre and Clint are the only ones I can count on to actually be in their stores. Seriously I go to Robin to get things built and she's GONE your store has only been open for thirty minutes (game time ) why are you not there aggggh

I actually kind of like the way they sometimes vanish when you are ready to spend. It makes them feel more like people with their own agenda that is different from yours, and not NPCs who exist purely to cater to the players every whim.

 

Yeah but shops do not do that usually generally. It's not about catering, it's about being a terrible shop practice.
Plus the marriage is totally catering so I find the catering to be an odd point myself.

 

thats a good point about the marriage being catering. but its also true, if businesses did that irl theyd die out cuz you cant run it and not keep it attended. not to mention people would steal your shit.. i myself feel tempted every time marnie and pierre are gone. like pfffhh fine, you wanna run a terrible business? das cool, das cool, lemme just take what i need and leave the money, ill do it my damn selfff. ill take a little extra for compensation of HORRIBLE NONEXISTANT SERVICE

 

It's not like there would be cameras, I bet you could walk behind the counter and no one would even notice you shove things into your pack.

 

*sees Pierre's not at his shop, "borrows" a bunch of seeds and a few plants* it's not like Pierre would ever visit to find out what happened, he'd probably assume Joja did it!

On the topic of shop owners being absent, Marnie is the main culprit for me. I'm aware about the Tuesday aerobics class, but she seems to be gone a lot more than that...what's she doing?? Shane's off working at Joja and Jas is usually with Penny so...

Marnie and Robin know they can get away with it because they have a monopoly. What are the alternative options if we can't find them when we want to shop? Go to the other place in Pelican Town that sells animals, hay and carpenter expertise? Oh wait... They really have us over a barrel.
