    I've been having this issue for three days straight after Starbound updated three times already (on the Unstable branch), and moving to the Stable branch, uninstalling and reinstalling the game, and deleting the universe and player folders (located in \Steam\steamapps\common\Starbound\giraffe_storage) didn't help at all.

    I wasn't using any kind of mods, I deleted the player and universe folders, switched to stable, uninstalled the game, reinstalled the game through Steam, verified the integrity of game cache, and nothing so far has solved this problem.

    When I try to start the game normally (Launch Starbound), I get the following error message:

    Access violation detected at 0 (Read of address 0)
    Stack Trace...
    SignalHandlerImpl::sehTrampoline()

    And then a common Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime error, closing the application

    When I try to start the game on OpenGL, I get the following error:

    Access violation detected at 0x800 (Read of adrress 0x800)
    Stack Trace...
    SignalHandlerImpl::sehTrampoline()

    Same Runtime error closes the game afterwards.

    Sometimes I get the following error:

    Access violation detected at 0x968d99 (Write of address 0x808)

    And the following window pops up:

    [IMG]

    I'm desperate and I don't know what to do. I've already deleted everything on the universe and player folders, uninstalled and reinstalled the game completely, opted out of Unstable branch, and nothing solves this. I've never had this type of error before.

    If required, I will post my starbound.log file, because the forum won't let me post a link to pastebin and this is my first post here.

    I hope I'm posting this on the right subforum, otherwise please reallocate where it belongs, with my apologies.

    I beg your haste on helping me solve this because the game literally won't even get past the Chucklefish logo and I can't play at all.

    For those who still have issues I suggest you find a thread which falls into the same instance as yours.
    The error message may look the same but the circumstances maybe different. This is why it is better to be extremely detailed with your error reports.
    Always include
    • Your operating system
    • Starbound.log
    • What you were doing prior to the crash
    • If any mods were installed, if they were. Completely empty your giraffe_storage folder and move all your files somewhere else. And reload the game if it loads it was a mod issue or corrupt file.
    That way you can properly match up errors and find solutions.

  3. As for the pasting URLS, just have 3 posts. its an Anti-spam thing.

    As for the solution, try deleting the packed.pak and verify contents with Steam to re-download.

    I just deleted the file and immediately verified integrity of cache with Steam. It said 1 file failed to identify and will be re-downloaded, so it's re-downloading the packed.pak file right now. It's a 692mb download. Will update when it's finished. Thanks for the reply[DOUBLEPOST=1422579494][/DOUBLEPOST]Digging into other people's problems I found out this:

    People have reported deleting packed.pak and re-downloading through Steam, and still not solving their problems...it might be because of this.

    I'm using Windows XP SP3.

    I guess re-downloading won't help at all, I'll just have to wait until they make a compatibility patch of sorts.

    I'm having the same problem and I don’t know why. Maybe because I run Ubuntu instead of Windows or Mac. Please someone hurry up and reply.

    I deleted the packed.pak file and re-downloaded it through Steam's "Verify integrity of game cache".

    There's been a 169mb update just a couple hours ago.

    Now I get the following error message when trying to Start Starbound normally through launcher:

    [IMG]

    When I try to start Starbound in OpenGL, I get the same Access violation detected at 0x800 (Read of adrress 0x800) error.

    Chucklefish please solve this ;_;

    I am getting the exact same error, on windows 7.

    To add to this further, I can create a new character, all my old world is there, but no dice on my original character....

    Any solutions?

    *edit* I tried deleting the universe folder (made a back up) new character was fine, old character still bugged out... so it is something to do with the character files?

    I am guessing that there are still going to be no taking backsies with old characters getting wiped....

    Let it be known that today, February 3rd 2015, after two updates, one of ~69mb and then another of ~700mb, Starbound is playable once again and so far I haven't encountered any errors nor bugs, nor lag.
    Thank you for delivering Chucklefish <3 My problem is officially solved.
