Spawns of gaia would be monsters made out of the very terrain where the player is. They would be indistinguible from the environment until they reveal themselve. When choosing to unveil themselves, the spawns would quickly emerge from the terrain in a loud rumble. The spawns of gaia would have a fix mass of block which would be impervious to all weapons, only tools and explosive that would normally affect the terrain would hurt the spawns, gradually reducing theire mass and size until they are too small to be a danger. As such, spawns of gaia never truly die, as they are a very part of the environment, they would only retreat to reconstitute themselves and come back later (regeneration time would be long enough so as to not be an overly bothering annoyance to the player) Spawns of gaia are spirits generated by the very planet players stand in, and as such, can be found everywhere There body is made of the main component of the biome (dirt, rock, sand, ash, etc) while there teeths are made with a solid ore more or less to where they are (rock, common ores like iron, etc) and there eyes are made of precious ores/material Spawns of gaia would stick around players, but not attack them until the player extensively dig/modify the terrain Players might sometime encounter a Heart of gaia, which is like a spawn but much, much bigger and that can "spew" part of its body Spawns of gaia cannot come to life and "walk throught" manufactured materials. as such, a wall of brick will stop them from approaching (but not from emerging under your feet Spawns of gaia peacefully stalks players until they (the player) starts doing changes to the terrain on a somewhat big scale, at this point, the spawn will emerge and attack the player for "desecrating" the planet. on the opposite, a player that "helps" the planet might garner the help of a spawn of gaia himself against other nefarious monsters found in the biome [disclaimer] i am an aweful spriter so i used tedit3 to make something decent, if the idea was to have a following, it would of course have a more streamlined look that suits starbound and that can be properly animated
Good in theory, bad in execution. I would imagine them as tiny golems, actually. They would appear as random lumps of dirt/sand, but then suddenly all the bits would fly into place and form the golem.
Not too bad of an idea, but could use a little more to it. How about they come alive only once you cause enough damage to the environment, hunt him relentlessly until he either leaves the planet for good or makes up for the damage? (with hunting, I, of course, mean that if you defeat them, they go away and return eventually, like you said) Emphasis on the underlined parts.
actually that was already in the main post but look like it disapeared and er, demon of borders, how is it bad in execution ?
It would be really hard to make a living, moving structure out of natural blocks that uses AI like a mob. I dont know, I just dont see it happening.
it dosent have to be animated by being made out of blocks, it can be made so that it looks like its made of blocks
I admit that it was there - at least partially - but it was rather badly explained. Though now its better.
well that is far from what i had in mind. the concept for the spawn of gaia is literaly the ground coming to life to attack offenders
I see. Maybe they could appear invisible and always be there, but when someone trifles with the landscape, as soon as the player walks over it, it grasps it with it's jaws; like the Sand-trap power from Kirby 64; and begins smashing it against the ground.
Kind of what I was thinking. Except I didn't picture them as tiny golems, but more something along the lines of maybe player/just short of player size. It really is a good concept, though it could use a bit of work.
