Bug/Issue Table placement overrides stair-platforms?

In game, placing a table as close as possible to the stairs so that the table ledge is above the staircase seems to override the character's normal pathing such that they ignore that the stairs are there at all. Placing the table one space farther away fixes the issue, but it seems weird that this would happen if the table doesn't visually collide with the stairs.

First occurred on my ship (Floran, second-to-last upgrade), but repeated on a planet as well.

OS: Windows 7 64-bit. Windowed fullscreen, but occurs on all forms.
