    The Spectowork :boo: :boo: :boo:
    "The ooziest race around"

    Spectowork.jpg

This is a race suggestion I made on July 30th. I have decided out of sheer boredom and on complete impulse to revive the suggestion. It would be necro-posting of me to just refresh the old page, so to follow forum rules iv'e decided to just create a new fancier page. The old page can be found in the link below.
    The original post

The Spectowork are a species of mechanically augmented artificial beings which strongly resemble some form of ghoul. Their bodies are made entirely of cytoplasmic goo (GROSS) and their organs are made of a metallic alloy infused with sciency bits. They have a Gothic/Victorian civilization and have discovered alchemy.

    Biology:

    Inner mechanical organ system

Their organ system is actually quite simple. They only have two bio-mechanical organs, connected by a complex cable. Their first organ is known as the neural computer, much like a brain this organ is responsible for all of the tasks that require though, communication, sensory ability, e.t.c. The organ looks more like a potato than a brain however, and is covered in a network of glowing lines. The brain also has an important piece sticking out, the sprig. the sprig is a device similar to the key of any wind-up toy. No one knows for sure how it works or continues to spin endlessly, but it is extremely vital to the Spectowork. It only stops spinning when they die or go to sleep. The brain connects to the second organ with a long thick cable, which acts like a spinal cord, sending information from both organs. The second one is like a heart, its beating keeping the Spectowork alive. It circulates in old cytoplasm with nourished cytoplasm regularly. If it were to stop beating, the Spectowork would stop receiving nourishment, and pass out and die. The cells in this creatures body carry the nutrients it cant use and the heart alchemizes them into usable compounds, which the cells divide among-st each other. The heart does this because the Spectowork cannot survive on organic food, and needs it to be combined with a certain chemical to make it usable by the body.

    Sight

The Spectowork's brain has two optic sensors used to capture images. This process is very similar to normal seeing functions, and isn't that extraordinary. However, if the Spectowork is having brain issues, the sight process can become laggy, causing the Spectowork much confusion and nausea. This is referred to as Shaky Camera Syndrome.

    Feeling, smell, and taste

The Spectowork lack nerves, so the ability to feel anything on their membrane or taste food, since they also cant smell. This causes them to have much envy for the other races when they display their clear ability to experience the world around them. This does mean however that the Spectowork aren't ever very picky about their food, and if they are then their just trying to fit in or are just concerned about other things than taste. The Spectowork can tell if they are in contact with something, but that's just because of the vibrations that travel along their body, which they can pick up on. They cant tell, however, what it is that their touching or the texture of the object. This can be dangerous as it is hard for them to tell if their in a very hot or cold environment.

    Hearing

Hearing is something they are capable of. The vibrations in the air can travel though their membrane and come into contact with their brain, which is capable of discerning sound. Although it sounds very wavy this is considered normal to a Spectowork, and wouldn't even now the difference anyway.

    Eating

As mentioned before, the Spectowork's digested food goes to the heart where it is turned into usable nutrients. How the food gets their however, is pretty strange. The Spectowork consume food by absorbing it like an amoeba, and the acids that make up the inside of its body then churn it into base compounds, which travel through its body to where it needs to go. Seeing a Spectowork eat food will kill anyone's appetite, you literally see them digest it.

    The slime sack

The Slime sack is the lamens term for the rest of their body which is basically a big stomach/cell. The skin like membrane is see through, and keeps harmful debris from entering their body, and lets food and other needed substances in (Like Oxygen). This membrane is very flexible and durable, that doesn't mean its okay to poke a Spectowork and make cool fart sounds. the inside of the membrane is coated in a thin layer if mucus, to keep the acid that makes up the entire inside of their body from melting it. Their bionic organs are also protected from the goo. The acidic slime is mostly a cytoplasmic like substance. They still have cells though, just not normal ones. The reason their goo is acidic is because of the cells, which act like lysosomes breaking down everything in their path (NO TOUCH). This is why its bad to be around a bleeding Spectowork, even though most of the cells would cease to function when outside the body.

    Life Cycle:

    Reproduction

Spectowork mating isn't exactly very kinky. the Spectowork build special facilities that Spectowork go to when they reach 18. The plug their brains into computers that read their biology and then sends that information into a system. The system select an suitable partner DNA-graph, and merges the two together. The machine than sends the information to a special building where the young are then spawned it tubes. Spectowork never know who their parents are, but that's perfectly normal, they identify their families on who they grow up with at the educational facilities. But natural reproduction is possible, they would just need the technology to create the brains and heats need for life, and they would combine parts of their body in a process deemed illegal by the Spectowork High Government.

    Aging

The Spectowork age standard. they start out young and childlike, with a very weak membrane and an information less brain. As they learn their brain crows more complex and becomes more powerful. They grow taller as the age and more upright, until they resemble other sentient species. As they grow old they develop dark spots on their membrane where the lining has started to wither. They can be patched up, but eventually their skin gives out and they grow giant holes, causing the Spectowork to void his systems. Their brains can also grow damaged, which cant be repaired, and their hearts can fail, which is fatal. Most Spectowork are incapable of getting human based age disorders. Most Spectowork grow to about 80 years in life and age like humans.

    History:

    Origin

Long ago their was once a race of hyper intelligent beings whose name has fallen to ruin in history. Their old home had grown barren, so they set out to find new planets to raise future generations on. Many colonies set out. One very unlucky one found a planet filled with diverse life and fertile land. They claimed it and built a new civilization. Eventually some people started to get sick, no one could find out what had gone wrong. A group of miners where to first to come into contact with the source. Under the planet was a vein of super radioactive gases, which had seeped into the crust from the myriad of unstable and small suns. The gases exploded from the surface and everyone grew ill. All the Diversity in the ecosystem was caused by the radiation, but the plant life and animals had evolved and adapted. Their people were dyeing, and they had no idea where the other colonies were in space. Those who weren't lucky enough to die became huge bloated beasts with a vague memory of their past lives, called TrollBears. There was no hope for their survival, but an ambitious scientist name Virion devised the only hope for their legacy. He suggested that their people should use computers to store their consciences in new bodies, ones that could survive the world they found themselves in. His new vessels were grotesque, and people saw it as playing god, but some took the chance. The others died as they were. Virion however was ambitious, he took the 20 he could get to volunteer and wiped their memories, replacing them with ones that made himself out to be their true and honest god. He gave himself a more immortal and grand mechanical body, and created a new people and civilization, with the monster infested ruins of the old one being hidden away.

    The rise to power

The literal millennium to come were filled with the rise of an incredible and powerful civilization of simple minded and singularly ruled people who build towering cities, discovered alchemy, and conquered the wilds of their planet. The original 20 became a legend of honor and was passed down as a story of people created by the god to create a paradise nation. Virion slipped behind the scenes, establishing a puppet government and keeping the populace smart but ignorant. He had control of a powerhouse military, godly science, and an entire planet in-penetrable from the outside and in.

    The outcasts

40 years before now a group of Spectowork explorers accidentally found the ruins of a strange city unlike that which they have ever seen, filled with creatures muttering dark secrets about some fallen people. they went to the capitol and questioned the government about it. They were unaware of what they spoke of, but when they reported it to Virion, he ordered they be banished from the planet and left to die in space. The explorers where the first Spectowork to ever leave the planet, and would have perished if not for traveling humans saving them and taking them to safety. They now look for a new home, answers to their many questions, and revenge on the people who kicked them out of their own home.

    Technology:

    Alchemy

The Spectowork have discovered the key to turning complex materials into base ingredients through the process of alchemical exchange. Their planets low amount of mineral resources drove them to find a way to solve their metal shortage. a brilliant scientist by the name of Isaac was the first to theorize the technology needed to change one material into another. He was inspired by the way their bio-organic hearts had this ability on their nutrients. century's later the technology was perfected in secret in Virion's laboratories and credited to a fake scientists named Alina. The technology involves a gigantic machine with two lasers that fire on both sides of any material. The lasers use strong ionic beams to atomically separate the particles of the material and rearrange them into something else. The machine is even powerful enough to change atoms into different atoms, through particle fusion. That alternate process is regulated by the government however, and takes so much energy it has never been done before.

    Ships

Since no Spectowork other than the banished, they have no actual ship technology. The banished however, needed a way to get around after being rescued by the humans, and have designed their own vessels worthy of their goals. Reverse engineering the only ship built by the Spectowork used to banished them. Their ships run on fuel, but they are working on the technology needed to turn any substance into usable gas, a form of industrial alchemy.
