Bug/Issue Turned off game; lost items

I was emptying my chests so I could move them and left some items on the ground. I had to go to bed for real, so I turned off the game. When I turned it back on, all the items on the floor were gone.

I’m upset because I had a rarecrow among these. Is there any way to get them back?

Edit: Forgot to mention it’s on the Switch.
