1. Welcome to the Art + Literature sections! Some things to keep in mind:
    • It's a good idea to specify whether or not you're looking for critique from your fellow members. Please don't let friendly criticism turn into an all-out flame war.
    • Art and literature often deal with mature subjects. This is fine, but please keep in mind that we'd like to keep things PG-13. Don't let discussions get out of hand, and if they do, please alert a moderator.
    • If you've got a request, please use the [REQUEST] prefix!

Holy crap, it's been two years since I last posted anything Laurence related. Well, as I've said time and again, Laurence never dies until I die, as can be evidenced by this latest piece of mine advertising my art services. It may be hard to tell, of course, since Laurence has donned a cunning disguised to keep Ed from finding him. Ed, of course, is unamused. The bird boy is also trying to kill me again, which is nice.

As the picture above suggests, I'm opening up for art requests. I don't know if any of you are still alive over here, but if you are, feel free to slip me an idea and I'll get it drawn up for you.

I'm also hoping to get some more work done on Ask Laurence soon. I desperately need this fox man in my life again--he's one of the few things that's given my life a sense of normalcy.

Uh, what else... Ah! I haven't been spending my time away just lazing about (though there was plenty of lazing, to be sure); I made a couple of fan comics on the excellent @Tyle's Starbound fan comic a while back (which you should all read if you aren't already (assuming you're still alive, of course--otherwise this whole exchange is going to be rather awkward)). I also made a lot of professional work, which you can see either on my DeviantArt, or over here on the official OnePageRules webstore (I drew the paper miniatures--the lovely covers were made by another artist). My favorite is probably this:

My favorite is Patchy Pete, over on the right there. Most Piratey Pirate to ever Pirate.

I think that's about all. It feels a bit weird, coming back after being gone for so long. Still don't know if anyone's still around here. If you are, let me know--I still check these forums every few days, just in case. You can also give me the kick in the pants I need to finish up Ask Laurence quicker.

Joyous days for all of you,

    THE END IS NIGH 01.png

It's been a hot minute, huh? Life's been somewhat hectic recently—I've been coming to terms with the fact that I might never reach the potential I once thought I held. That the dreams that once seemed so in reach may be doomed to remain dreams, as the reality I live in seems dead set on holding me back at every turn. Whether it be opportunities drying up, my mind turning against, or just my body revealing limitations I never could have anticipated, the future's been feeling increasingly... Not quite bleak, but stagnant. Empty. Without progress.

Depression has a way of amplifying itself. The mental miasma holds you down, stripping away your energy and willpower to push forward, which in turn feeds into your sense of self loathing and failure. A vicious cycle that lands you deeper and deeper in the dumps.

How do I fight this? How do I rebel against the encroaching void of my own brain?

Same way I always have: I draw the funny fox man.

    THE END IS NIGH 02.png

(He only hit Mr. Depresso for me because I promised him coffee)

Anywho. The ultimate point of all this chicanery is that I've been feeling down recently, and intend to use Laurence as a vessel to express my general frustration with life. And I'll start by giving him the greatest gift of any series I've ever started: An ending. The "Depression Arc" he's been stuck in hiatus with was always meant to be a proper ending to this stint of Laurence's adventures, setting the slate clean to begin an all new run of Ask Laurence (sort of a soft reboot where everything that's happened 'til now is still technically canon, but where it isn't required reading for any new readers). I intend to finally see it through, finally giving myself leave to begin writing new Laurence material outside the scope of this original ending idea.

Will it be good? Probably be not! And I've been learning that that's okay. My art's been stagnating recently, and I believe a large part of that is because I've grown averse to drawing "bad art." I want every project I produce to be as perfect as I can possibly make it. The problem is that we only grow through failure, and when you refuse to let yourself fail (at least in ways you can easily assess), you cease to grow in any meaningful way. Laurence was always meant as a tool to help me practice and grow in my art, as much as a means of expressing all the silly ideas in my mind (and, in many ways, make sense of the innate absurdities of life). He will be that once more.

But! That's enough blathering for now. Fox Man is back. Rejoice and be afraid in equal measure!
