i've just got into modding my very first species and i cant help but notice i lack the knowledge to know how to edit '.ogg' files, i use Audacity as a sound file editor but i cant change '.ogg' files, im too scared to change their properties to mp3 in case i lose them.
Well, I'd say you have two options: Back up the ".ogg" files. Then import them as ".mp3", edit and export back to ".ogg". As I understand it, the sound files would lose something (as mp3 is a lossy format). But you could listen to the result and see if it's satisfactory or not. Look for a ".ogg" editor. I haven't looked into it, but if people make them, there must be an editor for them.
