Intro
Greetings folks
Did you ever want to drastically speed up travel speed, explore inaccessible developer rooms or ruins without the tedium of breaking and mending?

Behold the Translocator staff (a.k.a Teleportation Stave)!
This item will allow you to teleport to any free location on screen at will. You can even teleport through walls!

Mod Compatibility:
This mod does not add any dependencies, or alter any internal files and thus should be highly compatible with other mods.

Works with Version 1.0 of Starbound and up (multiple testers confirmed it's operation for version 1.2.2).


Crafting

All you will need to craft this item are:

1. Crafting station: Forge or replicator or better.
2. 3 refined aegisalt
3. 2 gold bars
4. 1 diamond
5. 1 teleporter core.

Admin Commands:

• To spawn the item (as an admin):
  Enter the command: "/spawnitem translocatorstaff"

Permissions:

• Feel free to use this on any let's play video, stream etc .
• You may redistribute this in a mod pack, so long as appropriate credit is given.

suggestion: add a "Telefrag" altfire. longer charge time, but on release it creates an explosion at the postion you teleport to that does no terrain damage but does MASSIVE damage to enemies in the place you're going to.

why add telefrags? c'mon, you know you want to telefrag folks. it's one of the best known stop-gap solutions to collision hitboxes in shooters since Quake 1.

Insta-killing/hi damaging mobs with the current wand does sound like it could be a bit overpowered without some sort of cost.
Though having said that hoping to add wands which shoot teleportation orbs in a future update (once we have the time), could be fun to weaponize them...

Nice mod! Very useful especially for playtest.

As for the cost and overpowered-ness, I've been thinking. Shouldn't there be delay between fire? I've tried this for some time, and in planets with low gravity (such as moons, or modded small planets like in FU or Planet Size Variables) you can go up very high only with this staff.

 

so i've meddled with it and i feel the energy cost should be at least 100 for a normal teleport.

as for instakilling... well, there's always having it drain the entire energy pool as a tradeoff.

 

would it be possible to convert this effect to a head tech... i dont like the morphball situation but would like to get the blink tech back ^^

An earlier unreleased version of this mod did use the system pre 1.0. Though I ended up scrapping it; because the tech system was completely rewritten on release (There are more hooks and I'd probably need to override some of the GUI code as well.

Nice ideas with regards to combat.
True, this mod isn't balanced with combat in mind. It was more designed as a quick way to jump between points of interest, save time in building and explore developer rooms after finishing the missions ...

Note - on the future of this mod:
We've had to discontinue adding additional features for the time being. There are a few key reasons for this (discounting the one player who abused us via our social media channels):
The main reason is that I'm currently working two jobs (games dev. project and a day job in CMS to fund it). As a result I'm currently working 65 hour weeks and haven't found the time to get back to extending this mod.

That said this mod has been maintained so that it is compatible with all known post-release builds of Starbound and will continue to be for the foreseeable future

I have a request, Can you please add a cooldown? like 8 seconds cooldown? Its too op

 

I thought I installed correctly and managed to spawn the item in game but neither the LMB or RMB options do anything, my character is just holding the staff and nothing happens when I press either button. That's really weird. She is also constantly holding the staff UP as if in casting position, not horizontally as I can see in your video when not casting.

Edit: I don't know what I did before, but I went to re-download the mod but it wasn't even in my mods folder?? I just magically had the item somehow?
But my game won't load now that I've put the file in the mods folder. It just gives me a fish chuckle then CTD.
I also can't seem to remove the file from the mods folder now. I can go in and delete the content, but if I try t delete the folder it says it's in use by itself? like as if I had the folder open in another window? but I don't. very strange.

This looks so awesome I just want to use it DX

 

Troubling. First off restart your computer to clear access registry. Then delete the folder and reinstall the mod.

If you still get a chuckle to desktop (CTD), it is likely not this mod causing it to be honest, but post your log file and someone (possibly me) will help you figure out what's going on.

I restarted and was able to delete the file and then re extracted it, but I still get the CTD
It doesn't seem like your mod should be causing any conflicts so that's weird. I don't think what else I have that could be causing problems. but of course with starboudn it's very hard to remove mods without making your characters unplayable >~<

I'm guessing the log is the files in Starbound/Storage ?
there are five log files though. I'm not sure which is needed

 

Ah a little something;
While checking to make sure there wasn't a version of this I subscribed to on the steam workshop or something, I foudn a similar mod that uses a head tech to teleport in the same sort of way it looks like in your mod. but it also seems to be broken and not doing anything and that is evident in the comments of that mod's steam page that I am not the only oen and that it might be a problem with the game updating?
Maybe that has something to do with this too

 

Translocator Staff isn't one of my mods; I am just a user. But I am happy to help. Also if this doesn't work for some reason you could try Vanilla Dash ++, which IS one of my mods. But I didn't come here to plug, so let's try to solve this issue.

First off, the log file you are looking for is simply called "starbound" - the numbered ones are backups of older logs. You can post it here or host it elsewhere and link it here.
Secondly, do you also have this crash after uninstalling? If so let's see that log first.

I do not get the crash when I uninstall the mod.

 

You have a duplicate item entry. Some other mod has added an item by the same name. Worse, it seems like it's probably running an outdated version.

I can't tell just from this what all of the mods in your list are - but if you launch without this mod enabled and click on the mod settings button in the lower right you should be able to see a complete list of installed mods. Try to spot any modpacks/compilations that you can and unsubscribe from them one or two at a time with this mod enabled - once you achieve launch you have found your culprit.

If it's one you just can't live without, then I would suggest seeing if it's available on this site (you can download and update it yourself or get assistance updating it), and if it is not available, then...well... Maybe then I would shamelessly plug my mod at you.

 

You said your mod was "Vanilla dash++" right? is that related in some way?

I should say the reason I want a teleportation function is more for the ability to make it carefully around precarious terrain, especially underground, rather than simply getting across the map more quickly.
That being said, I do like the sound of improved dash

 

I take it the elimination process didn't go over well? I mind not at all if you go for my mod, but I'd like to help solve this problem too.

But yeah, the Blink Dash gets a targeted teleport. It doesn't change anything about the dash itself; it's just an ability that is tied to and separate from the tech.

 

Oh no it is just because I've been busy working and haven't gotten a chance to have a look through things. It'd be nice if I could just find the item in one of the mods if I'm able to download it outside of steam. that would be some good luck haha.
Hypothetically, if I did do that and I found a mod containing it, would I be able to remove the item from that mod specifically?

Moot question out of curiosity though. Because I think that whatever HAS included the mod, I suspect it is not broken exactly. like I said, I found that other mod that also is not teleportation properly. So I think it's just the specific similar code between the mods that is broken in the game. I suspect the staff I have likely is the same as in the download here.

 

Yes, if you find that mod and it is as we suspect a duplicate of an older version of this one, you can remove the item from it and it will work.

 

Hi, if you see duplicate item:

• Make sure to copy the right folder over.
  The inner "Translocator Staff Mod" folder needs to be copied over to [Starbound Steam Folder]/mods/
• it's possible that an installed mod pack includes it already, (though if this were the case you probably would have seen it as a craftable item if they included the recipe).
