Modding Help Trying to Customize Character Colors 1.0

In light of the 1.0 update, character editors no longer work. This, I expected. What I didn't expect, is that when I manually recolor characters via PLAYER file, it deletes my character when I launch Starbound.

Can someone help with this? I don't like the default colors available to me for my skin/hair.

 

I'd also really like to know how to do this, I can't even find the line to edit player colors.
